Today was one of those days when you look back at the day just before hitting the sack and say "what did I actually accomplish today?" It wasn't that I didn't do anything - it's just that it doesn't feel as if I made much progress in doing what I did.
One thing I *am* doing is reading through "Velvet Elvis", with some level of concern. I used to listen to Rob Bell's NOOMA videos until I started to sense this whole "Emergent Church" thing coming through; questioning what we should consider to be non-negotiables in our Christian faith. This book may very well lead into some of the same things. I don't know yet, it is too soon to tell, but I can already sense him stretching the limits of Orthodox Christianity.
I'm not gonna post a picture of the book or a link to where it can be purchased, because I don't want to appear to be suggesting that anyone actually purchase it. No doubt I will have more to say later on once I get through reading it.

This guy is a dangerous teacher. He denies sola scriptura, total depravity and is very "eastern" in this thinking. After all the things I have read about his book, I would be suprised if you could get all the way through.
"Heaven is full of forgiven people. Hell is full of forgiven people. Heaven is full of people God loves, whom Jesus died for. Hell is full of forgiven people God loves, whom Jesus died for. The difference is how we choose to live, which story we choose to live in, which version of reality we trust. Ours or God's." - p. 146
Views like this are really disturbing!!
Steve Frye
I read it and at the time a couple years ago he hadn't hitched his wagon to McLaren and other wayout philosophies. I think you especially will find it a good read; because I took away from it testing my faith in knowing what I believe and the need to know.
Steve -
How ya been man? Yeah, I'm a bit behind on checking for comments :)
I am 1/2-way through the book, and am taking away the same impression as you. It is one thing to find out the reasons why we believe what we do, it is another to lay things out in a completely unBiblical manner, as I believe Bell does.
Your example is a good ... example. What are forgiven people doing in hell??

Agreed - it really causes one to evaluate their beliefs, and to make sure one knows why they believe what they do!
